On 8 December, more than 500 pastors and church leaders were gathered for a leadership training session aimed at strengthening Christian leadership in today’s complex Africancontext. The training was led by Dr Master Oboletswe Matlhaope, Secretary General of the Evangelical Alliance of Africa.

The training focused on the call to African leadership, the challenges confronting leadership across the continent, and the urgent need for leaders who understand the times and are equipped to respond to the realities and needs of Africa.

During the session, he underscored the importance of understanding human rights from a biblical perspective, emphasizing that such an approach enables leaders to faithfully uphold both human rights principles and biblical values

Beyond its immediate impact, the training session also contributed to ongoing continental research on Upscaling Theological Education. This initiative seeks to assess the current state of pastoral and theological training across Africa, identifying strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement. The participation of Burundian pastors in this process represents an important contribution to shaping the future of theological education and leadership development on the continent.

AEB is grateful for this meaningful moment of learning, reflection, and partnership. The Association remains committed to equipping pastors and church leaders to serve faithfully, lead wisely, and contribute positively to the spiritual and social transformation of Burundi and the wider region.

As the training drew to a close, the AEB Board presented Dr Master Oboletswe Matlhaope with an honorary certificate in recognition of his significant contribution to the advancement of the Association of Evangelicals in Burundi, as well as his steadfast commitment to shaping and transforming the next generation of Burundian Christian leaders.
